I’ve just worked out the projection mapping procedures for UV mapping textures on a 3D mesh object within Blender. I’ve put a turntable head in the Video Feeds section of one of the characters for the short. The character still needs the eyes recreated in detail and the hair (particle system) still needs to be worked out. Initial Ship and Cycle designs have been created for the CG Short. Phoenix-1 has been modeled in Blender. The next to be modeled will be the Cycles. Transformable Exo-Suits have also been designed and will be fleshed out in Blender Shortly. Just got back from SIGGRAPH 2009. Currently compiling a list of contacts along with a list of technologies I learned about for further looking into; one of which I will be researching in the next few days and possibly be building to implement in the current project. This technology being a 3D Scanner that can be built for under $1000. With this integrated into our production pipeline, we would be able to speed up the modeling process and get closer to that photo-realistic look we are aiming for. I will be posting more details as I build this thing. Who ever heard of anyone crazy enough to attempt such a project? To complete a 5 minute animated film in under 48 Hours, rounding up a team of approximately 24 people from around the world who for the most part may have never even met face to face with exception to web cams & IRC Chatrooms, have them working as a cohesive well oiled machine cranking out pixels like a bat out of hell!!! Sam from the Blender Animation Production meet-up group just sent me this link and thought it might be useful for everyone. http://filmmakeriq.com/general/featured/555-blender-tutorials.html Enjoy!
I’ve mentioned this to a couple of the members in the Blender 3D Animation Production Group on meetup.com, in case you haven’t already done so, check out Blenducation.org for a FastTrack course on Blender, and quite a lot of other live online classes at very reasonable prices.
